What is the new Portland Home Energy Score?

Starting January 1, 2018, the City of Portland will require sellers of single family homes in Portland, Oregon to obtain and disclose a Home Energy Report. The concept is that each home will have a Score that reflects how the home uses energy, associated costs and cost effective solutions to improve the home’s efficiency.

They expect it to cost between $150-$200 and will have help for low-income sellers.

Here’s a link to the FAQ about this new rule.

Will this become something ignored by the public like nutrition labels? Is this a waste of money of the Seller’s part? Or will this be an effective way to tell how the hidden part of a home works?

We will have a better idea of that in six months. For now, you might want to list your house now if you don’t think you will have a good number.
