In the meantime, check out these tips to stay a little cooler and save energy!
It takes a lot more energy to keep your Portland OR area home cool in really hot weather, and you can make a HUGE difference with just a few small changes.
- In the morning open your windows or late evening when it’s cool outside. When them temperature is on the rise, approaching 75 degrees, shut windows and draw the shades to keep in cool air.
- Your air conditioning system or standalone A/C has to work much harder when it’s this hot to maintain the same temperature as usual. Consider setting your air conditioner to 78 degrees or higher when you’re at home, health permitting, and 85 degrees when you’re away for half a day or more.
- Did you know, turning on your ceiling fan when using the air conditioner allows you to raise your thermostat about 4 degrees to save energy with no reduction in comfort?
- Dry laundry and run the dishwasher in early morning or late evening, when it’s cooler, or overnight if you have a timer. Turn off the heat-dry setting on your dishwasher.
