Tips for moving from another state to Oregon
Dated: November 2 2018
Last year Oregon saw a population growth of just under 65,000 people while only expecting about 20,000 new residents. There are many reasons why americans love the state Pacific North Western (PNW) states like Oregon. There is a sense of open country and freedom that is just a drive away. You can easily transform scenery from ocean front forest to rolling hills of desert in about a 2.5 hour timespan, all while staring at some of the most beautiful mountain tops PNW has to offer. With as many people flocking this way, there are a few tips on acclimating quickly.
-Driving: get ready to be comfortable with your wipers on and to replace them annually. Rain is often the cause of slipping and sliding because it rains so much in the first and fourth quarters of the year, so get used to having a wet car, wet windshield and wet tires.
Other new driving conditions many don't prepare for ane the elevation changes and sharp turns that are common on back roads and neighborhoods. Use your headlights early and often to help others see you coming around corners.
Bike riders and Pedestrians have extreme right of way, be aware of them as they are often not aware of you.
Weather: don't plan to leave during the Summer months here, they are golden. Filled with long days, warm afternoons and outdoor activities that will last from sunrise to sunset.
Spring and Fall are very similar, often spotty with rain and lots of clouds.
Winter seldom drops below 30 degrees and snow is not common, however is snow falls, add 2 hours to your commute. This is due to the steep hills and sharp corners. They are dangerous and taking it slow (or just staying in) is highly recommended (most residents had AWD for these seldom occurrences).
